He lost.
Got 100k. then they wouldn't let him fly out the country as he hadn't paid the tax. So we had a couple of hours sorting that so he could get his flight.
The he landed in Dubai and they lost his cue!!
Baring in mind this was in 2006 i think. He would have got that 100k but then had to pay tax, and pay for his flights and his hotel bill etc. not a lot to end up with in your pocket for getting to a final.
He didn't have that much sponsorship then either.
So he wouldn't have earned a load at the end of that year.

He lost the final and they lost his cue? Poor bloke couldn't get a break...
Still, bet he felt good when he could finally pocket the cash.

It was an awful weekend. he was 6 2 down i think from the first session and tried to get it back but it just wasn't going his way. After they go to a hotel and do speeches and the players walk in together etc. he was just standing there like he was punch drunk.
The funniest moment that tournament was being in the players family bar when Nigel bond beat Stephen Hendry on a re potted black earlier in the rounds, the roar when Hendry lost and that as from the family room!
Yes, it was the cue he was given by his dad when he was 11 and played with ever since.
He called me from Dubai airport to say they'd lost it and could I help!!
Luckily they were great at Emirates and found it and delivered it to him at home in a few hours.
Hahaha very good, an arm would be worse for him to lose i suspect!!!

Peter Ebdon.
Was with him when he lost the final to Dott, not a very nice drive back to the hotel really. not a lot to say...
Emirates then lost his cue on the Monday when he flew back home. that was a very panicky few hours until they found it...
Plus on the Monday the gov't wouldn't let him fly out until he had paid his tax on the money he had earned from the final, the cheque hadn't even been put in his bank!! not a great 48 hours that weekend for him!

I agree with what you both say.
My point being is that the best squad doesn't always win. there is more to it than that.
If you can get everything else right then you can win it, like Leicester.
A friend of mine was, or maybe still is, a snooker player and won the world championship. he happily admits he wasn't the best player but beats people better than him due to the other bits he brings to his game to beat that opponent.

Leicester winning the league is by far and away the greatest sporting achievement there has ever been, and ever will be. Over a sustained period, to do what they did, was unreal. I wouldn't have put a pound on them to qualify for the Champions League if it was a million to one, as I might as well have thrown a pound in the bin.

Leicester winning the league was one of the biggest shocks in sporting history. We could go another 1000 years under the same system and it might be unlikely to happen again.

Leicester managed to win the league under FFP.
Not saying that they could sustain it but it hasn't been done for years that a club outside the top few have won it.
I am not saying that it means smaller clubs have a better chance but it is time that people looked at what makes a winning success.
Mainly comes down to team work, motivation, and everything being right and everyone being happy. like how it was at Leicester and Portugal for the euro's.
Of course you need talent, but they all have that and all can be beaten on their day, so it comes down to making those players be on their day and make them feel like every day is their day.
that comes down to good management

It does cut both ways - FFP also protects our advantage over smaller clubs.

Yes, I'd like to think that that has become apparent to everyone. While it probably does protect some clubs with stupid owners, it does nothing but handicap everyone aside from those who started off with an advantage that is now impossible to cut within the rule.

I think he has realised that in reality it doesn't work and all it's doing is possibly holding back smaller/medium sized clubs, instead of reigning in the larger ones.
The more money you have the easier it is to circumnavigate the rules, and it seems that football is no exception.

Interesting that Wenger has u-turned on FFP - thinks it should be scrapped. Might be the beginning of the end of that? Would be very interesting for us.

transfers window dates relate to incoming transfers only I believe. for instance supposedly a Chinese club bid for Andy Carroll sometime in early February but we knocked it back as with the window being closed we couldn't being in a replacement for the treatment table.
